Our mission is to provide a fun, rewarding experience for those involved. It feels good to do good; and we want to provide those with any experience in web design, mobile development, frontend and backend development, etc. to use those skills to help a not-for-profit achieve greater impact through the technology we develop. This is more than just a one-time event. We hope to have more opportunities for the tech community to come together to continue work on these projects throughout the year.
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is an event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers and project managers, collaborate on software projects.
What is ‘hacking’?
Not used in reference to illegal computer or online activity, our definition of “hacking” refers to the act of building solutions with limited resources. In the case of a hackathon, these resources are usually time and energy.
Do I have to stay overnight to participate?
No, although we have set up the facility to be accessible the entire time of the hackathon.
Who are we helping?
We are helping iPourLife by building a prototype for a mobile application to assist them with their LifeStrengths program. Check out https://ipourlife.org/lifestrengths/.
I’m not sure my skills are up “competition level”. Will I be embarrassed? What if I need help?
This is a community event and a friendly competition meant to inspire, not humiliate. Please don’t worry about your skill level. If you have any skills at all, you will enjoy the weekend. We have mentors available to help if you get stuck.
